Wood River Valley Band FREEHAND Returns to Papa Hemi's Hideaway Tonight

Fresh on the heels of their very successful and well-attended debut there earlier this month, the new highly-acclaimed (and increasingly sought-after) quartet version of the local band, FREEHAND (www.myspace.com/musicbyfreehand), returns to one of the Valley's more highly-acclaimed and sought-after eateries -- Papa Hemi's Hideaway -- tonight (Friday), from 6:30-9:30pm.

This seriously rockin' and entertainin' group of 20-something musicians -- which includes recent Colorado transplants/Valley newcomers Joel Adams (on drums)  and Ray Brown (on bass) -- was first formed late last year as an acclaimed duo, featuring singer-songwriter-guitarists Sheryll Mae Grace ( www.myspace.com/sheryllmaegrace) and Aaron Pugh (www.myspace.com/aaronjameslovesmusic), and then later was expanded into a quartet, after Adams and Brown arrived here in early January -- both of them seasoned and accomplished musicians in their own right who've known Pugh for a number of years, back from their east Texas college days (in fact, when Adams, Brown, Grace and Pugh aren't performing various gigs throughout the Wood River Valley, they're happily teaching music and vocals at Mitzi Mecham's "Music N' Me" ( www.notesmusicnme.com) music schools in Hailey and Ketchum, something they obviously love doing at least as much as performing music in front of local audiences here).

Grace, who began her career as a very popular solo singer-songwriter-guitarist-keyboardist -- she is often a favorite, still, at both the Big Wood and Northern Rockies folk festivals held here each summer -- came in second place in 2008 in an international, online-only contest geared toward up-and-coming musicians that was sponsored by www.yobi.tv and involved tens of thousands of music-video entries from all over the world (Grace was eventually bested, after a very close 40-week voting period, by a young man in Australia, but plans on eagerly re-entering the annual yobi-tv contest again next month).

In addition to their ongoing "Music N' Me" teaching work -- and their work in the quartet version of FREEHAND -- Pugh and Grace also have recently begun performing as a duo Thursday nights at the Ciro Market/Wine Bar there in the Walnut Avenue Mall (other side of Sun Valley Road, across from Tully's and Iconoclast Books), from 7pm-9pm or so.
