Cox Communications Winter Concert Series Begins Feb 11th, 4-6 p.m. Town Plaza

Live music in downtown Ketchum will get a boost with the  Cox Communications  Winter Concert Series, to be held each Thursday at Town Plaza in Ketchum. The series will kick off February 11th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with music from Matt Hopper and will continue with a different musical act every Thursday afternoon through March 25th. The events are presented by Cox Communications and  sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon, Hayden Beverage, Mountain Town Events and the City of Ketchum. LeRoy’s will be open and serving hot chocolate, adult beverages and crepes. This event is free and open to the public

Matt Hopper is a songwriter, guitar player and performer from Alaska. He is currently based out of Boise, ID. Matt Hopper & The Roman Candles bring a variety of music to the table – rock and roll, folk, psychadelic, dance, blues, and have been compared to such luminaries as Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Drive By Truckers, Jack Johnson, Van Morrison, The Stokes, Kings of Leon and Ryan Adams amongst others. The music is varied as defined on early “power pop” releases with The Roman Candles, Hoppers’s eclectic unreleased solo albums “Bedroom Pop One and Two”, his 2003 solo offering “The Gold Rush EP” saw him take flight from Alaska on a national touring schedule for a few years. He recorded his next album with a band in Boise, ID in 2006 “Reverse Odyssey” under the name Matt Hopper & The Roman Candles.

Hopper is currently working on a deluxe re-working of The Gold Rush EP and his next full (double) album currently in production and to be released as “Matanuska-Susitna” in 2010. He describes his musical lifestyle as “troubadour” – from his birth in a sweltering desert metropolis to an upbringing on the outskirts of cold and frosty Wasilla, AK; a collegiate stay in Anchorage that saw him begin his musical journey with early versions of The Roman Candles and in the libraries of KRUA 88.1 fm and KNBA 90.3 fm. He left Alaska in 2003 to tour full time – performing gigs in 46 of the 50 united states of America. He performs solo and with his band, of which changes frequently depending on his location on a map.
