Ketchum's nexStage Theatre will play host to more than 1,000 elementary and preschool students from 11 different Blaine County schools over the course of both today and tomorrow, Feb. 22 and 23 -- two performances each day, at 9:45am and 12:30 each day -- as the Sun Valley Ballet Company (www.sunvalleyballet.com) stages a musical production of "Alice in Wonderland," part of it sixth biennial Children Series.
This narrated and truncated musical production of "Alice" (a highly-acclaimed full-length version of it was staged by the ballet company in December, 2009) is being underwritten by Atkinsons' Markets, U.S. Bank, The Papoose Club, Joe's Backhoe Service, and SFP Studio, and is part of the Sun Valley Ballet's commitment to the community.
Students from Hailey Elementary, Hemingway Elementary, Community Elementary, Carey Elementary, Woodside Elementary, the Bigwood School, Pioneer Montessori School, The Mountain School, Stepping Stone Preschool, Little RIver Preschool and Teddy Bear Corner will all be in attendance over the course of the two days "Alice" will be staged there at the nexStage. Some seats for the general public may be available as well.
Among those featured in this Children Series production -- which will be filled with colorful costumes, wonderful music, a terrific story and the foremost Sun Valley Ballet School dancers -- will be Nina Hirner, Kelsey Brennan, Kathryn Caminiti, Tanner Dredge, Bailey Cleven, Arielle Rawlings, Abigail Barton, Chris Campbell, Emma MacGuffe, Mariah Stout, Gracie Doyle, Elena Vorm, Neva Baer, Carly Ching, Koko Furlong, Anna Rose Bernbaum, Samantha Black, Diana Rodriguez, and Mackenzie Harbaugh.
A Q&A session will take place after each performance with Sun Valley Ballet School Artistic Director Sherry Horton. For more info contact them at directors@sunvalleyballet.com or call Jill Brennan at 726-9876.

In other music-related news readers of this "Harmonic Convergence" (local music scene-oriented) column may want to make note of for the week, those hugely-popular Peruvian singers, Maria Laura Bustamante and Alejandro RIvas -- about whom I wrote extensively about in SVO's 1/30/2010 "Buzz" issue (see:
http://www.sunvalleyonline.com/2010/02/01/peruvians-maria-laura-bustamante-alejandro-rivas-are-taking-local-music-scene-by-storm )
will be singing today in Sun Valley Resort's Duchin Room, from 4:30-8:30pm. Call 622-2145 for more details.
This acclaimed Peruvian duo, samples of whose beautiful and eclectic music can also be found at their
www.myspace.com/alejandroymarialaura page, have been taking the Wood River Valley by storm for months now, and perform each Wednesday at Ciro Market's Wine Lounge, from 4-6pm (during the free weekly wine-and-cheese tastings there), and then again from 6:30-8:30pm or so as well. Call 622-4400 for more details.
Maria Laura Bustamante and Alejandro RIvas -- who have also performed at the nextStage Theatre, the "Train on Main's" Peruvian restaurant and at Papa Hemi's Hideaway -- are slated to return to Peru on March 15, so music lovers here only have a limited number of opportunities left to see one of their stellar performances.
Today's Duchin Room gig is their first apperance at the Sun Valley Resort.
Wood River Valley venue owners interested in booking this terrifically-talented and instantly-likable couple can reach them at:
malabu4000@gmail.comAlso coming up this week on the music news front, Sheryll Mae Grace's increasingly-popular FREEHAND band (

www.myspace.com/sheryllmaegrace), which just enjoyed a very successful gig there at Papa Hemi's Hideaway this past Friday, will take center stage at the Ketchum Town Plaza this coming Thursday (Feb 25), from 4-6pm, as part of the ongoing Cox Communications Winter Music Series there.
Alice in Wonderland
And on Friday. Feb. 26, around 10:15pm (until about 12:30am or so), that seriously kick-ass cool 21-year-old reggae/blues singer-guitarist-harmonica player from Twin Falls, Ethan Tucker (
www.myspace.com/etuckermusic), returns for another eagerly-anticipated appearance at The Roosevelt Tavern, also here in Ketchum.
Tucker is absolutely another tremendously-talented musical act you simply have to see in-person to believe, people!!! Call The Roosevelt (726-0051) for more info.
