Mark Your Calendars for Upcoming nexStage Theatre Events: Talk, Fundraiser

By John Pluntze

Ketchum's nexStage Theatre, which just hosted two terrific back-to-back "Winter Sol Festival" concerts this past weekend, has two more big events coming up this month that residents and visitors alike may want to mark on their calendars.

This coming Wednesday (March 10th), at 7 p.m. -- as part of the recently-opened Sun Valley Center for the Arts' new "I Spy: Surveilance & Security" exhibition -- attorney, author and tech expert Frederick Lane will give a talk there at the theater titled "Living In a Wired World: Can Personal Privacy Survive in the 21st Century?"

Lane, who has written five non-fiction books (including "The Decency Wars," "Naked Employee," "American Privacy" and "Obscene Profits") and has been featured on a number of national TV and radio programs (including NPR, and Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show"), will take a hard look at the rapidly-evolving world of computers, privacy and free speech -- discussing, among other things, how we reveal ourselves online (either knowingly or otherwise).

From social neworking and government surveillance to "sexting" and cyberporn, Lane will ask the question: Is there really personal privacy anymore in the age of the internet, cell phones and security cameras?

Tickets ($10 for SVCA members, $15 for non-members) can be purchased at the Ketchum SVCA building (191 Fifth Street East; 9 a.m.-5 p.m.), via the www.sunvalleycenter.org site or by calling 726-9491.

And the nexStage Theatre will also play host -- from Friday, March 19th - Sunday, March 21st -- to the "Great Ketchum Tag Sale," an indoor flea market/community yard sale, with 10% of the total proceeds raised from the three-day event going to fund the nexStage's ongoing programs and 2010 season of stage productions.

A $25 fee will get interested sellers an eight-foot (or larger) space for this warm and wonderful weekend indoor community yard sale/flea market.

Friday, March 19th, from 2-5 p.m., will be the set-up time for sellers, with a special preview sale on the 19th (from 5-7 p.m.) that is free for sellers and their invited guests, and $5 for the general public.

The indoor community yard sale will take place on Saturday, March 20th (from 9-4), and on Sunday, March 21st (from 10-2).

The nexStage Theate is located at 120 South Main Street in Ketchum.

Donations of gently-used clothing and other goods will be gratefully accepted as well by the nexStage Theatre's nexBestFriends Committee. All donors receive a tax-deduction receipt for their gifts.  Call 720/4298 or e-mail nexStage@hotmail.com for more info.
