Celebrating Mo Barry's life

[Editor Note: The community is also invited to share their fond memories of Mo in the comments below.]

Mo Barry, a much-loved Valley resident, died on Monday, March 8, 2010, thereby drawing to a close her nearly three-year battle with cancer and 20 years of service to our community. She was 54.

Mo was affectionately called "Goddess of Zest" by her friends, and no one packed more living into a life-time. Please help remember Mo and celebrate her legacy at a Life Celebration on Sunday, March 28, at 1 p.m. to be held in the Limelight Room, Sun Valley Inn, with refreshments following the program.

Mo Barry
I'll always remember Mo and how her presence and energy invigorated any space -- indoors or out! Her amazing wardrobe always reinforced the statement of who she was and what she was about -- truly she literally wore her emotions on her sleeves. Her heart of gold and passionate convictions were to be admired. My heart goes out to Julio and I thank him for his devotion to and love for our dear friend. Mo will be so greatly missed, but her impact on our lives will live on.

We are losing a good friend.
I met Mo years ago through my association with the Animal Shelter.
She was a loyal friend of the animals and truly cared about their welfare.
We will all miss her.

Lovely Mo!
I met Mo several years ago when I first moved to this community. While I was never in her inner circle of friends, I crossed paths with her over and over again at community events, when her husband was at Blaine Manor and later, after her diagnosis in the Starbuck's line at Albertsons (of all places!). She was always optimistic, showing great strength and energy. A real true fighter. And such a positive person. My life has been made better just by knowing her. She has truly touched this community in so many ways and her joy of life, beautiful smile and boundless energy will never be forgotten. We will miss you terribly.

Mo Barry
Years ago when I first noticed the name Mo Barry, I thought perhaps there was a black musician living in the community who I hadn't heard of. So obviously I found out that Mo wasn't a black musician and over the intervening years I noticed that she was an upbeat, positively focused person who rarely revealed the grim life and death struggles that she faced over the years. She is much admired and missed. And sadly reminds us that many of the good die far too young.

Tribute to Mo Barry.....
Your spirit was like a clear night sky glowing,
It was like a jeweled tent glowing with warmths reflected flowing.
Exceeding the gravity of life's inconveniences.
Your attitude was gracious and kind toward any and all--
Your boundless energy and flair focused us all on just the feelings of ---
All things positive.
Your courage and steadfastness, will be the things I will count as
My keepsakes for knowing, it is better to be an authentic individual, than homogenized...
Thank You for the smile and the laugh I will alway remember,
So evident in all of your dealings.
Your positiveness has taught us what can be faced
When all seems in doubt, and Grace is here for all of us, when
Least expected.
Thanks Mo, Your Friend, Jim Smith
