Experience the excitement of Idaho Dance Theatre as it presents "Motion Pictures" in Ketchum, Idaho. Idaho Dance Theatre features an outstanding program featuring Idaho’s finest contemporary dancers.
IDT will present the best of the work of Choreographers and Artistic Directors, Marla Hansen and Carl Rowe, from the 2009-2010 season in a show that will amaze and delight audiences of all ages. IDT’s work is full of surprises and creative ideas. Marla Hansen, Artistic Director and choreographer, will present "Why Wait" performed to the music of Tom Waits. This multi-dimensional work includes humor, introspection, a little romance, and a bluesy spiritual. "Why Wait" is set in a prison environment of sorts, with moveable black boxes and costumed in orange jumpsuits. We get a glimpse into the characters' lives as they tell their stories, face their fears and find love. Beginning with a lively mop dance and climaxing with an old-time revival meeting, unexpected visual surprises will keep you entertained to the end. Carl Rowe, Idaho Dance Theatre Choreographer and Artistic Director, will present his third premiere of the season, “One Oh One”. Full of humor, beauty, and fine dancing, this piece features five sections, each an independent and distinct, self-contained dance. There will be an intriguing section of modular segments of movement, a wild trio for three men, a beautiful duet, and two sections of lightning quick movement to up tempo world music.
“Motion Pictures” Tour Show will feature new, exciting work from two guest choreographers. Lauren Edson, IDT Alumus, premiers her newest work. Set to the ethereal sounds of Icelandic group Sigur Ros, "Sitting in Silence" is a wonderfully tender yet explosive work. Created on seven dancers, this piece fuses ballet, modern and pedestrian movements to reveal an emotional honesty and the complex path to forgiveness. Gonzalo Valdez, current company member who is originally from the Magic Valley, premiers a fun, intense and passionate piece based on the classic forbidden love story but with a Latin flare. The work is set to fast playing, rhythmic acoustic guitars which sets the mood for a young love to bloom, realizing both its beauty and devastation. Just like the music, the choreography is fast, sensual and ardent. How the story ends –you will have to come and see it to find out!
“Motion Pictures” will present contemporary dance at its finest. Don’t miss this opportunity to see Idaho Dance Theatre ‘s performance at nexStage Theatre.
