After four years of putting on an unusual yet memorable and fun filled series of events which make a point not to take competition too seriously, the Sheeptown Rally is once again bringing their unique brand of competition and camaraderie to the citizens of the valley. Held June 24-26th in concert with the Rhythm and Ride Festival scheduled for the weekend, all Sheeptown events are free of charge and geared for the entire family.
The Sheeptown Rally is highighted by the Sheeptown Drag Races on Thursday evening June 24. This event pits riders head to head in a bracket elimination drag race contest “dragging” logs in a 40 yard sprint. Any bike will work with no special gear necessary. A fantastic spectator event, the Sheeptown Drags are definitely worth marking on your calendars. Drag Races this year will be held on River Street between Spruce and Silver Streets. The evening begins at 5pm at the Powerhouse located on Main Street between Spruce and Silver with a BBQ, bocci and family-oriented entertainment. Racing will begin at 7 pm. Participation is free and racers are encouraged to sign up early on a first come first served basis.
Friday evening brings the Hot Dog Hillclimb One Handed World Time Trial Championships. The only world championship event featuring hot dogs and bicycles, riders will navigate an undisclosed, timed course holding a hot dog in one hand receiving judged credit for taking good care of their dog as well as eating it upon finishing. Again participation is free and racers are encouraged to sign up early. Registration will be at the Wise Guy from 5-8 pm. Racers will meet at Hop Porter Park at 8:30 pm following the Sun Valley Center for the Arts Concert scheduled for that evening. The start location will be announced at the park and racing will follow shortly thereafter.
Saturday June 26 brings the Sheeptown Epic mountain bike ride. Starting in Hailey at the Powerhouse, riders will venture out on a long mountain bike ride taking to area trails for a majority of the day. Not for the weak of heart or leg, participants are encouraged to bring plenty of fluids and food for the ride. The ride will leave at 9am and again participation is free.
