The Sun Valley Figure Skating Club proudly hosted the 2010 Annual Sun Valley Summer Championships July 22 – 25. Drawing 192 skaters from 35 skate clubs, the Summer Championships has become the largest figure skating competition in the Northwest Region. Skaters travelled from  Georgia, Minnesota, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois and most western states to take part in this historical competition, creating unusually large competitive groupings, particularly at the Open Juvenile and Intermediate levels.   “Showcase Sunday” concluded the competition with six exceptional Group Theatrical production entries from Denver, Phoenix, Lakewood (Wa.) and Sun Valley.  Sun Valley’s two professionally choreographed and elaborately costumed productions, “Alice In Wonderland” and “Penguin Posse,” drew cheers from delighted Lodge Terrace guests. “Alice” took the First Place Trophy and the “Penguin Posse” captured second for a perfect ending to the Summer Championships.

Three SVFSC skaters claimed special awards this year. 15 year old Nicole Pratt, a Wood River High School junior, won the Phyllis Kourland Cup for the Most Outstanding Artistic Program at the Novice through Senior Level. Darlin Baker is Nicole’s coach and choreographer.  9 year old Noelle Weaver, a Community School student, won the Most Outstanding Showcase Trophy at the Basic Skills through Pre-Juvenile Level.  Elena Dostatni is Noelle’s coach, and Gia Guddat choreographed her Showcase program. Shayna Moellenburg, SVFSC’s highest level skater in this competition, won the engraved Silver Plate presented to the Junior Ladies Combined Free Skate Overall Champion. Shayna is a 16 year old sophomore enrolled in Connection Academy, an online school. She is coached by Lisa-Marie Allen with choreography by Gia Guddat.
