The Sun Valley Writers' Conference Celebrates its 15th Year

The Sun Valley Writers’ Conference will celebrate its 15th annual gathering of readers and writers, August 20-23 on the grounds of the beautiful Sun Valley Resort in Sun Valley, Idaho. A full event pass provides access to all lectures and breakout sessions as well as breakfast and lunch throughout the weekend for $850.00. There are a limited number of full event passes still available for this summer’s event.

The rich and diverse group of presenters this year will include:

  • Former Secretary of the Treasury Henry M. Paulson, Jr., interviewed by 2010 Pulitzer Prize winner Liaquat Ahamed
  • Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer
  • Economic historian Niall Ferguson
  • Tony and Academy Award-winning actor John Lithgow
  • Poet and memoirist Mary Karr
  • Travel writer and lifelong friend of the Dalai Lama, Pico Iyer
  • Human rights activist and memoirist Ishmael Beah
  • Novelist and screenwriter Dennis Lehane
  • And more…

For four days each August some of the country's—and the world's—best writers and thinkers, including fiction and nonfiction writers, journalists, playwrights, poets, and filmmakers talk about their work and the world. Our past presenters have included 31 Pulitzer Prize winners, 10 National Book Award winners, and 5 winners of the elite Mann Booker Prize given in Great Britain. Together, writers and readers freely exchange ideas, concerns, hopes, and aspirations.

The audience of some 1,000 will enjoy talks presented in the stunning outdoor Sun Valley Music Pavilion and smaller, more intimate sessions with favorite speakers, as well as theatrical and musical performances and films on opening day. In July and August, tickets to individual talks in the pavilion will go on sale in local Sun Valley bookstores for $35 each. Accommodations are available at the Sun Valley Resort; reservations can be made online at www.sunvalley.com or by calling 800-786-8259.

The Sun Valley Writers’ Conference is a nonprofit organization that always includes scholarship students and admits teachers and students free of charge. For more information, please visit www.svwc.com.
