Bountiful Harvests of Fresh Produce Give The Hunger Coalition Reason To Celebrate!

Harvest time is celebration time at The Hope Garden.  Saturday, September 18 marks the first annual Harvest of Hope Celebration, a community event in support of The Hunger Coalition.  All are welcome to join the festivities from 4 – 7 pm at The Hope Garden located at the corner of Walnut Street and 1st Avenue in downtown Hailey for live music and family activities.

In its first season, The Hope Garden has produced a bounty of fresh vegetables and herbs for The Hunger Coalition to distribute to the hungry in our community through their Mobile Food Bank program.  Garden & Education Manager, Hallie Reikowsky, is immensely grateful for the hard work and generosity of all who contributed to the remarkable success of the Garden over the last few months.  True to its nature, The Hope Garden provides an opportunity for clients of The Hunger Coalition to empower themselves and give back to their community.  It is also responsible for producing locally grown, fresh produce for weekly distribution to those in need.

While most food pantries offer a variety of dry and canned goods, The Hunger Coalition is committed to providing wholesome, nutritious foods in addition to basic pantry items – with fresh greens, squash, and ripe tomatoes at the top of the list.  Together with the fresh foods brought in through the Grow A Row and Perishable Goods Pick Up Teams, more than 1,000 pounds of precious, nutritious fruits and vegetables have gone home with individuals and families attending the Mobile Food Bank this year to date.

The Harvest of Hope Celebration will offer community members an opportunity to tour the garden beds, enjoy live music and engage in fun family activities.  Local chefs and caterers will offer sample dishes of various fresh dishes prepared with herbs and vegetables grown at The Hope Garden.   These tasty treats will be available for purchase along with wine and beer.  To increase community awareness and raise funds for the Season To Grow campaign, information and unique donation opportunities will be available throughout the Garden.  For more information, please call The Hunger Coalition at 788-0121 or visit: www.thehungercoalition.org.

Founded in 2003, the Blaine County Hunger Coalition strives to end hunger in our community by providing wholesome food to those in need and by promoting solutions to the underlying causes of hunger through collaboration, education and advocacy.
