Sun Valley Opera House Premiere's Local Student Film, "Stimulus Package"-Aug. 30th

Who says you have to wait to go to film school, to appear in a movie that has a well-written plot, has standard “indie” production values, and attracts industry professionals that lend their time and equipment ? “Stimulus Package”is such a movie. It is a 40 minute comedy, based on the one-act play, “Cell Phone” by Danny Cerullo, and has been filming in Blaine County for 5 months. It will now have it’s first FREE public screening at the Sun Valley Opera House, Monday, August 30th, at 5:30 p.m. The project is the brain-child of the Wood River High School’s Performing Arts Academy, who partially funded the production, and is directed by Cathy Reinheimer, who teaches “acting on film” in the Academy curriculum. The film features 17 of the Academy students, as well as teachers, and several other recognizable thespians.

When Karl Nordstrom, the Perf. Arts. Academy head, decided to go ahead with a film project for the final trimester, scripts were requested from several professional theatre programs. The script that was finally chosen, was written by a student from the well-respected BSU Dramatic Writing Program, who agreed to develop it into a longer screenplay and fine-tune the characters for the actors involved. The result is a modern Everyman quest: it revolves around 2 days in the life of a well-meaning cell phone salesman (Jeff Maxwell), who has been assigned to make his deals at a Mall kiosk; an economically feasible solution in a tanking economy, where he must“make his quotas” to stay employed. Through the high-speed techno world of “quick connections”, he comes to grips with the less predictable and more complicated circumstances of “human connecting”, where-in the comedy and colorful characters emerge. The film also features well-known local venues, that were used in the production, including the Wicked Spud and Giacobi Sq.

The Opera House will open at 5 p.m. on Mon. the 30th to sell concessions. After the screening, there will be a short Q & A with several of the film’s actors, the writers and director. The film is age-appropriate for PG-10 and up. Any questions about the “Stimulus Package” screening should be directed to: lulurein@cox.net. Enjoy the show !
