Well, technically "slack" season has begun once again, but there's absolutely nothing that's slack or otherwise lacking in the local music scene here again this week -- whose offerings include an acclaimed singer-songwriter-guitarist from New York City ... and one of the hottest new Wood River Valley-based groups to arrive on the local music scene here in some time now.

This afternoon, at the Hailey Farmers' Market (213 N. Main Street) from 2:30-6:30 p.m., the music will start when Papa Hemi's Hideaway regulars The Mighty Shims (Fletcher Brock and Jim Paisley) take the stage there.

Then tonight, in Ketchum, from 7-10 p.m. at the Sego bar & restaurant (131 Washington Avenue -- right around the corner from the Magic Lantern Cinemas/ 928-7878), an extremely talented, New York City-based young singer-songwriter-guitarist whose lovely and lilting music often conjures up comparisons with that of Molly Venter, Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, Neko Case and Patty Griffin -- Caitlin Canty ( http://www.caitlincanty.com / http://www.myspace.com/caitlincantymusic / http://thesixtyone.com/CaitlinCanty / http://www.last.fm/music/Caitlin+Canty / http://new.uk.music.yahoo.com/caitlin-canty/  -- will take the stage there, alongside the acclaimed New York-area string quartet, Darlingside ( http://www.darlingside.com / http://www.myspace.com/darlingside / http://www.last.fm/music/Darlingside ), and friends and fellow musicians David Poe ( http://www.myspace.com/DavidPoe / http://www.last.fm/music/David+Poehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Poe ) and Rachel Loshak ( http://www.rachelloshak.com / http://www.myspace.com/rachelloshak /
http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/rachelloshak3 ).

Also tonight in Ketchum -- at Whiskey's (251 N. Main Street/726-5297/ www.whiskeyjacques.com ) -- Chicago's funk and soul band, Lubriphonic ( http://www.lubriphonic.com / http://www.myspace.com/lubriphonic / http://www.youtube.com/user/lubriphonic ), takes the stage there, with music starting around 10 p.m. or so.

Kole Moulton & the Lonely Road ( http://www.kolemoulton.com / http://www.myspace.com/kolemoulton / http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/moultonjess /  play at Whiskey's tomorrow (Friday) night, with Mary Cutrufello ( http://marycutrufello.com / http://www.myspace.com/marycutrufello /) and Low-Fi ( http://www.myspace.com/lowfirocks ) slated to perform there on Saturday night.

Also on Friday night, at the Sun Valley Brewery (202 N. Main Street/ 788-0805/ www.sunvalleybrewery.com ), the Idaho band, Str8 Up ( http://www.myspace.com/str8upbandmusic ), plays there, with music slated to start around 9 p.m.

At Papa Hemi's Hideaway (310 S. Main Street -- just as you're leaving/entering Ketchum/ 726-3773) on Friday night, that rockin' blues musician, Dan Freeman, takes the stage there from 6:30-9:30 p.m And on Saturday evening, one of the hottest new musical groups to arrive on the Wood River Valley music scene in some time now -- Good Ju-Ju (Julie/Jules Konton, Sylvia Green and Julia Abrams) -- takes the stage there at Papa Hemi's, also from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Just formed earlier this summer, Good Ju-Ju was one of the opening bands for this summer's recently-concluded "Ketch'em Alive!" outdoor concert series, and have likewise enjoyed terrific successes at Notes Music, The BrickHouse, The Wicked Spud, KBs, the Ketchum Farmers' Market and a number of other venues throughout the Valley. Saturday's gig will be their very first time performing at Papa Hemi's Hideaway -- but hopefully not their last, because they're definitely an instantly-likable group with A LOT of heart and soul

At the Silver Dollar Saloon in Bellevue (101 S. Main Street/ 788-2900), on Friday night, Valley fave, Old Death Whisper/The Dampools ( http://thedamphools.com / http://www.myspace.com/thedamphools / http://www.reverbnation.com/olddeathwhisper ) takes the stage there, with Karaoke  there on Saturday evening, with music starting around 9 p.m. both nights.

And finally on Saturday, at Bellevue's The BrickHouse bar & restaurant (202 S. Main Street/788-4999/ www.brickhousebellevue.com  ), the very last family-friendly outdoor street party concert of the season takes place there, from 7:30-10:30 p.m., this one featuring Old Death Whisper/The Damphools. Biggggg thanks to co-owners Lindy Stark and Tom Nickel for making that particular Bellevue establishment such an unceasingly-vibrant and FAMILY-friendly place for a wide range of awesome music throughout this summer!!!

And that's just some of the musical fun that's available this weekend in the Wood River Valley...
