Great local food at Wood River High School BBQ Today 5:30 pm

Don't miss the Wood River High School Homecoming BBQ, Friday, September 17 at 5:30 pm at the Wood River High School Football Field.  The annual picnic will this year have a number of booths from which football fans and the community can purchase delicious treats and entrees.  Powerhouse Restaurant and Bike Shop will be serving their organic burgers on Big Wood Bread challah buns, along with hot dogs and homemade potato chips. Lava Lake Lamb marinated and grilled  by Brent Barsotti will be served in warmed pita bread.  Money Farms pies, Toni’s ice cream  and hand made cookies round out the delicious offerings.  However, the most popular items may be BuckSnort Rootbeer and floats: the root beer is hand made in Bellevue.  Wood River parents will be selling locally grown corn on the cob and watermelon from M and M Heath Farms and King's Crown Organics.

The barbeque is designed to support local growers and restaurants, and invites members of the community, as well as the regular school crowd.  The PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student-Association) fundraiser offers items for $1 and up, so that everyone has a chance to enjoy the food.   Purveyors like Powerhouse, which employs a number of Wood River seniors, and Brent Barsotti, caterer, donate a portion of their proceeds.  Organizers hope that the event will evolve into a fall festival, with booths from local caterers, restaurants and growers:  “The Best of the Valley” crossed with the farmer’s markets.  Live music is provided by All Night Diner, which will play a couple of 50's hits to go along with the event theme.  Supporters include: Atkinson's markets, Despo's Mexican with Altitude, Jane's Artifacts and EB Phillip's Quigley Map Studio.
