It's not just the weather that's hot right now, as this weekend will prove to be yet another one that's verrry hot, indeed, where the Wood River Valley's various music offerings are concerned -- offerings that include several extremely popular Valley-based bands, as well as some terrific visiting ones.
Tonight, for instance, at The BrickHouse bar & restaurant in Bellevue ( www.brickhousebellevue.com /788-4999 / 202 S. Main Street), that superb, Southern-born, Boise-based blues and jazz musician, Carter Freeman ( http://www.myspace.com/carterfreemanmusic / http://www.reverbnation.com/carterfreeman1 ) -- Freeman, btw, opened to great fanfare for Tony Furtado & The Coalmen just last night, at The Sun Valley Brewery -- will take the stage there, with music starting around 7:30 p.m. (until 11 p.m. or so).
Also tonight in Bellevue, at The Silver Dollar Saloon (101 S. Main Street/ 788-2900), the locally-based band, Hanger 17, will be entertaining patrons there, with music slated to start around 9 p.m. (until midnight).
At the Hailey Hotel Bar & Grill (201 S. Main Street/ 788-3140) tonight, DJ Marlene (aka, Marlin Valdivia) will be doing her always very entertaining vinyl-spin thing there -- as she does so often at the Silver Dollar Saloon, too -- with music starting at 9 p.m.
Up in Ketchum tonight, at Papa Hemi's Hideaway (310 S. Main Street -- just as you're entering/leaving Ketchum/ 726-3773), singer-songwriter Jeff Moll will be entertaining diners and drinkers there in equal measure, with music running from 6:30-9:30 p.m. And tomorrow (Saturday) night at Papa Hemi's Hideaway, a Valley-based band that has been leaving A LOT of verrrry smiling faces in its wake all throughout the summer (and now the fall, too) -- most recently, just this past Tuesday at the Ketchum farmers' market, where they easily proved to be one of the most popular music offerings ever featured there -- All Nite
Diner (Craig Meyers, Heidi Hogan, Brad Pearson, Jason Vontver and Ned Wheeler) will take the stage there, with music likewise running from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Just up the street from Papa Hemi's Hideaway, another Ketchum establishment that's as understandably famous for its terrific music as it is for its terrific food and drinks, Whiskey's ( www.whiskeyjacques.com / 726-5297 /251 N. Main Street) will feature another extremely popular, Valley-based rock band, FourStroke Bus ( www.fourstrokebus.com ), who'll be starting around 10 p.m. there. And tomorrow night at Whiskey's, a Boise-based band that first got its start right here in the Wood River Valley some six years ago -- Finn Riggins ( www.finnriggins.com / http://www.myspace.com/finnriggins ) -- will take the stage there. Featuring Lisa Simpson, Eric Gilbert and Cameron Bouiss, this highly-acclaimed indie rock band has been taking Idaho in general, and the Wood River Valley in particular, by storm for a number of years now (they were last seen here back in late August, performing at The Wicked Spud -- before a verrrrrry large and appreciative audience), and there's absolutely no reason to think the phat beats-pumping, dancetastic Finn Riggins crew won't be once again packing them in there in droves at Whiskey's as well tomorrow night ... and understandably so!!!
Ohhhh and speaking of The Wicked Spud (305 N. Main Street/ 788-0009), Saturday evening will see that justly-venerated Hailey establishment once again transformed into a wonderfully entertaining outdoor music venue, when the Valley-based bands Up a Creek and also Disciples Of Rock will take the stage there, with music running from 6-8 p.m. there -- part a very full, eclectic and exciting evening of family-friendly entertainment there at The Spud, one that will also include performances by various very talented students of the Valley-based Music 'n Me ( www.notesmusicnme.com ) music schools, students of the Sun Valley Ballet Academy (who'll be performing Michael Jackson's 1980s classic, "Thriller"), Judah Claffey (on his viola), as well as face painting, pumpkin decorating, a Karaoke contest, and numerous raffle drawings (for a new Ibanez guitar -- courtesy of the Notes Music store there in Hailey, located right next to the Liberty Theatre -- as well as for free dance lessons, free music lessons, various restaurant packages, and other assorted seriously-cool prizes).
That Saturday Wicked Spud event, which runs from 2-8 p.m. or so, is a fundraiser for various student scholarship programs administered through the Sun Valley Ballet company, and also the Music 'n Me music schools, so please come out and support them there.
Call Music 'n Me/Notes Music store co-owner Mitzi Mecham (788-2496 or 788-3348) for more info about the Saturday events there at The Wicked Spud.
And that's just SOME of the musical fun that's being offered this weekend here in the Wood River Valley!!!
