Moellenburg is 2011 NWPJunior Ladies Freeskate Champion; Regional Competitions Results

16 year old Shayna Moellenberg, a Community School tenth grader, is the new 2011 Northwest Pacific Regional Figure Skating ChampionshipsJunior Ladies Free Skate Champion.  Competing against eight of the best Junior Ladies skaters in the six state region,  Moellenberg placed first in both the Short and Long Programs by a significant point margin.  Her final combined free skate score of 105.08 points was  more than 12 points higher than the second place finish, soundly dominating the Junior Ladies event and qualifying her for competition in the Sectional Championships for the second consecutive year.  Last year, Moellenberg qualified as the Novice Ladies Silver Medalist at the Regional Championships in Medford, Oregon. The Pacific Coast Sectional Championships take place November 9-13 in Culver City, Ca.  Moellenberg is coached by Lisa-Marie Allen, with choreography by Gia Guddat and Joel Dear.

Nicole Pratt and Alexandra Harten also competed for Sun Valley at the Regional Championships in Boise October 2-3. 15 year old Pratt, a Wood River High tenth grader, finished eleventh overall in an extremely challenging field of eighteen Novice Ladies. 13 year old Harten, a Community School eighth grader, finished thirteenth in a tough elimination round which split thirty-three highly competitive Intermediate Ladies. This was Harten’s first Regional Championships competition at qualifying levels. Pratt is coached and her programs choreographed by Darlin Baker. Harten is coached by Holly Wheeler, with choreography by Gia Guddat.

Results of the Non Qualifying Competition at NWP Regionals

 Thirteen additional Sun Valley skaters competed October 4-5 in the Non Qualifying Competition at the NWP Regional Championships. Six came home with medals, including Blake and Lane Letourneau, Isabella Bourret, Travis Flynt,Emma Stuessi and Samantha Bunting. B. Letourneau, a Community School fourth grader, won the the gold medal in her Nontest Girls, Group B.  Bourret won the bronze medal in Pre-Preliminary Girls with Axel, Group C.  Flynt took silver in Pre-Preliminary Boys with Axel. Stuessi took bronze in Pre-Preliminary Girls without Axel, Group A.  L. Letourneau and Bunting took fourth place medals in Nontest Girls Groups D and E, respectively. Non qualifying level events may be divided into sub-groups by age, with Group A including the youngest skaters. In this competition, the non qualifying competitive groups ranged in size from two in Pre-Preliminary Boys with Axel to ten in Pre-Preliminary Girls with Axel and in Open Juvenile.

Competing at the highest non-qualifying level, Caitlin Scholtis finished seventh in Open Juvenile Girls, Group B, one of the larger competitive groups.  Tara Ware placed seventh in Preliminary Girls, Group B, and Arizona Semones finished eighth in Preliminary Girls, Group C.  Alex Stuessi placed ninth in Nontest, Group C, and Katie Peters was sixth in Nontest, Group D. Blair Baker finished sixth, and Claire Stickney ninth, in Nontest Girls Group E.  Darlin Baker coaches and choreographs for the Letourneaus, Flynt, Scholtis, Ware, Bourret, Peters, Baker, Bunting and Stickney. Holly Wheeler coaches the Stuessis and Semones, with choreography by Gia Guddat. Lisa-Marie Allen served as a Technical Specialist for the NWP Regional Championships and the Non Qualifying Competition at Regionals.
