Winter Storm Warning in Effect from 11 pm 11/18 to 5 pm MST 11/20

The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow and blowing and drifting snow...which is in effect from 11 pm this evening to 5 pm MST Saturday.

* Snow accumulations: 8 to 20 inches

* Elevation: above 6000 feet

* Timing: from 11 pm tonight through 5pm Saturday

* Locations Include: Ketchum...Sun Valley...Galena Summit...Smiley Creek Lodge...Copper Basin

* Winds: 20 to 35 mph with higher gusts

* Impacts: expect periods of snow from 11 pm tonight through Saturday. Amounts up to 20 inches are possible at high elevations. Snow levels will begin near 6000 feet and drop to valley floors by Saturday. travel along roads in the region including Highway 75 from Sun Valley through Stanley to near Challis and US 93 from Willow Creek Summit to Challis to Ellis will become hazardous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions:

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
