Back for the 5th year: Christmas Carol - The Musical!

A Christmas Carol - The Musical, the family holiday favorite, is back in town.  Now in its fifth year, this musical version of the original story is filled with Christmas songs and magic and has become a Sun Valley holiday tradition, opening at the nexStage Theatre, 120 South Main Street in downtown Ketchum on Friday, December 17th at 7pm. This nexStage Acting Company and Laughing Stock Theatre co-production continues December 18th, 19 th 22nd and 23rd at 7pm, with a final Christmas Eve matinee on Friday December 24th at 2pm. Hot mulled wine, cider and cookies will be served around the Christmas tree in the lobby before the show on opening night. Tickets are available by calling 726-4TKS or in the theatre box office weekdays from 11-4pm.

The Charles Dickens classic tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge's journey through the past, present and future, that reawakens him to the true meaning of the holidays. Written by Charles Dickens, the story was adapted for the stage by David Armstrong with music by Dick Gallagher and lyrics by Mark Waldrop. This year's production is directed by Patsy Wygle and Keith Moore, with musical direction by Patty Parsons Tewson.

The cast includes four professional actors as well as 62 talented local adults and children. Ten families have more than one member in the cast. "This year's production is our biggest yet," *says Wygle*. "It's grown every year since our first production in 2006. Parents began calling me in September to find out when auditions were being held. This year we have two casts, starring forty-four local children."

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol was first published in London in 1843 as a novella and it rapidly became a holiday favorite. Today it is arguably the most-adapted non-Biblical Christmas story. Ebenezer Scrooge is the surviving partner of Scrooge & Marley, a business that values profit above all else. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is his usual miserly self, but is visited by three spirits, who show him his desolate path and give him the opportunity to gain his redemption. Don't miss the fun! This timeless story continues to touch hearts, no matter how often it has been seen.
