Free Cross-Country Ski Tour - BCRD Ski The Rails Sat, Jan 29

Kick off the start of the weeklong Sun Valley Nordic Festival on the BCRD Wood River Trail at “Ski the Rails” Saturday, January 29.  Blaine County Recreation District and the Hailey Chamber of Commerce invite you, your friends & family and even your dog to join in a free cross-country ski tour along the former Union Pacific Railroad.  Ski from Ketchum to Hailey at this popular community event and add the kilometers to your tally for the 200 km Trails Challenge, a challenge to ski 200 km of the valley’s Nordic trails. The BCRD Wood River Trail is groomed for both classic and skate skiing, and all the tunnels will be snow-covered for the tour. Funded by tax dollars, no trail pass is required to ski on the BCRD Wood River Trail.  The trail is a multi-use trail, open to walkers, snowshoers, skiers and dogs.  After skiing the rails to Myrtle St. in Hailey, ride the shuttle to the Sun Valley Brewery and see what Hailey has to offer.  Live music starting at noon by "Up A Creek", great food, dining and shopping specials.

KSKI 104.7, KECH 95.3, KYZK 107.5, The Community School, Wood River Valley Animal Shelter and BCRD volunteers will be at four aid stations along the tour with snacks and beverages to keep skiers energized and warm; and Perry’s will provide treats at the BCRD tent at the start of the tour.  Also, keep an eye out for interpretive signs along the trail.  Official start is at 10am at Serenade Lane in Ketchum, or start anywhere along the Wood River Trail.  Shuttle buses leave from the Sun Valley Brewery in Hailey starting at 9:30am and a shuttle between Myrtle St. & the Brewery starts at 11am. The last bus north departs the Brewery at 2:45pm.  Dogs are allowed on the bus; however, they must be under control on a leash.  Skiers can purchase lunch at the Sun Valley Brewery and enjoy beer specials.  Commemorative Ski the Rails Jytte hats will be available to purchase at the Brewery.  For more information, please call the BCRD at 578-BCRD or visit bcrd.org.
