The US Ski Hall of Fame will be having its Induction Ceremony here in Sun Valley on Saturday, April 2nd at the Sun Valley Inn. This year two locals will be inducted into the Hall of Fame: Earl Holding, the visionary leader and owner of the Sun Valley Company and Snow Basin with Muffy Davis, who is a world champion and paralympian quadruple medal winner. The Induction Dinner moves from different ski resorts each year to promote itself and the work it is doing. Bernie Weichsel the Chairman of the US Ski Hall of Fame states: “The US SKI & SNOWBOARD Hall of Fame might be situated in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan but as the depository of all Snow Sliders collective history -- and specifically the place where we recognize, and honor, those athletes who have triumphed in competition and those Sports Builders (resort founders, equipment innovators, teaching professionals, etc.) who built the modern and world class ski and snowboard experience we all benefit from today.
The Hall of Fame decided to have this incredible event here because it is a special year for the Sun Valley community as it is its seventy fifth-year in operation. Part of the US Ski Hall of Fames commitment to skiing heritage is to support local Ski Museums. They partner with a different one each year for the induction ceremony, this year they chose to work with the Ski Museum located in Ketchum. Weichsel states, “The Hall really is a part of every Ski and Snowboard resort, big or small, nationwide. One way the Hall is able to be both a National Institution as well as one who recognizes what happens on a local level is thru an on-going relationship with regional museums as well as local historical society’s- like the Ketchum Sun Valley one. It’s a partnership that not only helps spread each organizations messages but one that helps the local group – in this case the KSVHS – raise badly needed funds thru its role as host of the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony”
