The Committee For Better Government - Press Release

On Tuesday August 2, 2011, the Initiative Petition proposing the adoption of a Council-Manager form of government for the City of Ketchum, Idaho, with the requisite number of signatures, was presented to the Ketchum City Clerk for certification of signatures.  Once certified, the question "Shall the City of Ketchum, Idaho adopt the council-manager plan of government as set forth in sections 50-801 through 50-812, Idaho Code?"  will be placed on a November 8, 2011 ballot.

In addition to the proposition to adopt the council-manager plan, an election to choose the five (5) officials to serve in the new form of government shall be held on November 8, 2011.  All five (5) of the current Ketchum elected officials will be required to seek re-election if they wish to continue to serve in public office (should the council-manager plan be adopted).

Although the deadline for the Initiative Petition to be perfected with the required number of certified signatures was not due until August 30, 2011, it was submitted early to encourage all potential candidates for elective office a substantial period of time to determine their desire to serve the public as a member of the Ketchum City Council. The early submission of the Initiative Petition will also provide voters, both for and against the proposal, with additional time to have a fair open debate and dialogue about the benefits and detriments of both forms of government.
