Wood River High School Senior Project Reaches Ghana

Residents and staff of the Country Side Orphanage in Ghana said thank you to Wood River High School graduate Kelsey Brennan via You Tube.

“Thank you Kelsey, we love you!” they said. Brennan organized a fundraiser at Sun Valley Ballet School, benefitting the orphanage. “I put together an overnight dance party for the younger ballet students. I taught African dance movements and we performed for the parents the next morning,” she said. In one night she raised over $800.00. “I wanted to educate young people here about my experience in Ghana. I went there through AFS when I was 16. I knew I wanted to raise money for the orphanage, so I decided to combine that passion with my passion for teaching dance.”

Brennan credits her mentor, Sun Valley Ballet School Director Sherry Horton, with helping her. When asked how her Senior Project benefited her and shaped her interests in college she says, “My senior project will always be something that influenced my life. I am currently looking for more volunteer opportunities abroad. One idea may take me all the way to Thailand to help monkeys and elephants. Completing the Senior Project overall helped me improve my organization and speaking skills. I am now in a Communication 100 class, and all the speeches are easy and seem so short after my presentation for Senior Project.” Brennan is attending Humboldt State University in California.
