Be Generous and Be Thankful This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Baskets for Families in Need and How You Can Help

With so many local individuals and families struggling to make ends meet during these challenging economic times, The Hunger Coalition is pleased to announce another year of the Thanksgiving Basket Program.  And you are invited to help.

For those wishing to receive a Thanksgiving Basket, an application must be completed and returned to The Hunger Coalition no later than November 10th.   Applications in both English and Spanish are available at The Hunger Coalition, St. Luke’s Center for Community Health, The Advocates, from all Blaine County School District social workers and online at www.thehungercoalition.org

For those wishing to help, The Hunger Coalition is in need of an additional 150 turkeys this year.  They are reaching out to local churches and the community in an effort to fill this important need.  Church representatives and community members interested in participating should contact Naomi Spence at 788-0121 for details.   Your generosity provides a wholesome turkey for a family this holiday who may otherwise have none.  Together with the contents of the Thanksgiving Basket, it gives your neighbors in need something meaningful and nourishing for their family to enjoy.

Local businesses are supporting this year’s Thanksgiving Baskets by hosting food-specific collection drives for everything from canned chicken stock to cranberry sauce.  The Hunger Coalition believes in the generous spirit of this community and hopes everyone will join together to ensure all our local families have an opportunity to celebrate, and be thankful, this Thanksgiving.

In keeping with the spirit of giving, students from The Sage School, Pioneer Montessori School and The Mountain School are making and donating 350 homemade pies to accompany every Thanksgiving Basket.  This level of commitment is inspiring and deeply appreciated!

For more than one thousand children and adults in our community, having enough to eat is a daily concern.  You can make a difference.  By donating a turkey, contributing to food-specific collection drives, or making a cash donation to The Hunger Coalition, you can help ensure these families have wholesome food on their tables, and hope in their hearts, this holiday.

If you are experiencing hunger and believe your family cannot provide for a Thanksgiving meal, please know your community is here to help!  Please call 788-0121, pick up an application at one of the agencies listed above, or visit: www.thehungercoalition.org

Thanksgiving Basket Applications must be returned to The Hunger Coalition no later than November 10
