State Superintendent Tom Luna Visits Schools

State Superintendent Luna, and Woodside Elementary Principal Brad Henson visit with a student.

State Superintendent Tom Luna visited Wood River Middle School and Woodside Elementary last week. Why? Superintendent Luna and his wife Cindy were at the Wicked Spud in Hailey earlier this year. WRMS teacher Jill Clark recognized him and introduced herself, inviting Superintendent Luna to visit her class. At the same time, Woodside Elementary PTA officers were having a meeting at the Wicked Spud and also introduced themselves. They too invited him to visit their school. So, last week he visited both WRMS and Woodside.

At WRMS, Superintendent Luna and his wife Cindy joined Jill Clark’s 7th grade Earth Science students as they learned how to use microscopes. Superintendent Barber, BCSD Board of Trustees Chair Steve Guthrie, and WRMS Principal Fritz Peters joined the fun, each of them working with students on their assignment. Superintendent Luna also visited the 7th grade Leadership Class.

At Woodside Elementary, Superintendent Luna was on the receiving end of an impromptu performance from Dorinda Rendahl’s music students. Superintendent Luna also saw how Plant Facility Funds and grants are used for technology, visited the Autism Spectrum Disorder program and Developmental Preschool, and watched 1st grade Dual Immersion students learn about bats with Adan Sanchez and Jill Lecrone.

As part of the tour of Woodside Elementary, Superintendent Luna met with parents and answered questions. State Representative Wendy Jaquet also joined the tour of Woodside Elementary. “It was a very positive visit,” said BCSD Superintendent Lonnie Barber.
