The Sun Valley Wellness Institute is pleased to announce that best-selling author and renowned brain scientist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor will be delivering the keynote presentation to kick off the 2012 Sun Valley Wellness Festival held over Memorial Day weekend, May 25-28 in Sun Valley, Idaho.  Her presentation will be held Friday evening, May 25, 6:00pm at the Sun Valley Resort.

Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard-trained and published neuroanatomist, experienced a severe hemorrhage in the left hemisphere of her brain in 1996. On the afternoon of this rare form of stroke (AVM), she could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life. It took eight years for Dr. Taylor to successfully rebuild her brain - from the inside out. In response to the swelling and trauma of the stroke, which placed pressure on her dominant left hemisphere, the functions of her right hemisphere blossomed.  She is the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir about her recovery from her stroke and the insights she gained into the workings of her brain, entitled My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey.

In 2008, Dr. Taylor gave a presentation at the TED Conference in Monterey, CA, which has become the second most viewed TED Talk of all time. This now famous 18-minute presentation catapulted her story into the public eye. As a result, she was chosen as one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2008. In addition, Dr. Taylor was the premiere guest on Oprah Winfrey's Soul Series web-cast and was interviewed by Oprah and Dr. Oz on The Oprah Winfrey Show in October, 2008, and that interview was just rebroadcast on Oprah’s OWN in January 2012.  Her story is being made into a feature film directed by Ron Howard.

-more-

Dr. Taylor is one of those rare speakers who can keep an audience perched on the edge of their seats. She projects an amazing positive energy and is committed to educating everyone about the beauty and resiliency of the human brain. She keynotes with the single intention of helping her audience walk away with a better understanding of what is going on inside their heads and how they can get their brain to do what they want it to do.
Dr. Taylor explains in terms everyone can understand how our brain organizes information and what the differences are between our right and left cerebral hemispheres. She firmly believes that the most important relationship we each have is the relationship between our logical, rational, verbal left brain, and its counterpart - our creative, intuitive, thinking in pictures right hemisphere. She helps us understand how our two brains work together to create a single seamless perception of reality, and what is going on inside our heads when we experience personal conflict.

Dr. Taylor now serves as the CEO of My Stroke of Insight, Inc. and as the Chairman of the Board of Jill Bolte Taylor BRAINS, Inc., a not-for-profit organization which is dedicated to providing educational services and promoting programs related to the advancement of brain awareness, appreciation, exploration, education, injury prevention, neurological recovery, and the value of movement on mental and physical health, as well as other activities that support this purpose. She is working on the creation of a Serious Game for Health for neurological recovery as she feels passionate about helping others find their way back from neurological trauma.

Dr. Taylor also serves as the National Spokesperson for the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center (Harvard Brain Bank) and educates the public about the shortage of brain tissue donated for research into the severe mental illnessess. Since 1993, she has been an active member of NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) and is currently the president of the NAMI Greater Bloomington Area affiliate in Bloomington, Indiana.

Dr. Taylor travels extensively as a keynoter at conferences around the world and is having a wonderful time helping others learn more about their own brains and how to realize that peace really is just a thought away.   The Sun Valley Wellness Institute is honored to bring her to Sun Valley that she will be sharing her amazing and insightful story with Sun Valley Wellness Festival attendees.

After an upsetting loss to the Utah Grizzlies (7-1)  Friday night at our first away game of the season.  The Sun Valley Suns met at a local Utah watering hole to drink some of the local brew and hatch a plan to send these Grizzlies back into hibernation!

After many, many pitchers of the Utah  "Super Ultra Ultra Light Beer"  The Suns, now feeling extremely  hydrated,  plotted their strategy for the next day's game.  Waking up Saturday totally refreshed,  like they each drank a gallon of water the night before, The Suns took to the ice ready to put the grizzlies back on the endangered species list.

Hamming in the game winning goal Charles Friedman made himself a nice Grizzlie skin rug and the Suns skated away with a 6-5 win!

The Sun Valley Suns would like to thank the Utah Grizzlies for a great weekend of Hockey  and look forward to the Grizzlies coming to Sun Valley this weekend Jan 20th  and 21st for a rematch.

You Heard Right!

Sun Valley Suns Vs. Utah Grizzlies

This Weekend Friday 20th and Saturday the 21st at the Sun Valley Indoor Ice rink

SONORA, AND THE EYE OF THE TITANS: ACTION-PACKED AND HUMOROUS FANTASY NOVEL

Debut Novel from Travis Hall Explores Historical Folklore, Unexplained Phenomenon and Cultural Popularity

SUN VALLEY, IdahoSonora, and the Eye of the Titans dives into historical folklore, unexplained phenomenon and cultural popularity in this action-packed and humorous fantasy by author Travis Hall, available NOW!

After a malicious prank at cheerleading tryouts, Allora’s embarrassment turns to anger. Suddenly, her hands spontaneously burst into balls of flames. Unbeknownst to the 16-year-old, her erratic outburst transmitted an energy signature attracting otherworldly assassins who have been searching Earth for an integral group of rebels hiding in the small town of Sandy, Ore.

Allora and her friends train under the guidance of a sage named Sumatra, and a bumbling warrior, infamously known as Sasquatch. Together, they learn the ways of combat, master the art of the sword, and harness the ability to focus energized molecules called hadrons to fulfill their destiny as true Sonorian warriors. The only hope for Allora to protect the ones she loves is to find an ancient artifact, known as the Eye of the Titans.

To find the Eye of the Titans, the four teens must solve complex riddles, fight mythical creatures, and navigate a cavernous maze, all while managing advanced calculus, jealous cheerleaders, and the much anticipated prom.

Sonora, and the Eye of the Titans is an exploration into the trials of adolescence, and the struggle Allora and her friends face with their extraordinary talents and the responsibility of growing up.

On January 3, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Boise District received a call from a local individual about two dead horses discovered on public land in the Wilson Creek area, approximately 15 miles southeast of Marsing, Idaho. Wilson Creek is located within the Hardtrigger Wild Horse Herd Management Area. An initial investigation determined the two free-roaming Mustangs had been shot.

The BLM is offering a $ 1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shootings.

"The BLM is serious about enforcing the 1971 Wild Horse and Burro Act that protects wild horses on the range," said Idaho BLM State Director Steve Ellis. "The Act clearly states that it is a federal crime for any person to maliciously cause the death of any wild horse, and we want to find whoever is responsible. We care a great deal for the welfare of these animals and want to prevent this from happing in the future. I am hopeful the public will be able to provide us information that will help in this investigation," Ellis said.

If you have any information that might help investigators solve this crime, you are urged to call Loren Good, Idaho BLM Law Enforcement, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, at (208) 373-4024.
