            Registration days are set for Wednesday, August 31,  5:00 - 8:00 pm at the Community Campus in Hailey and Thursday, September 1, 2:30 - 4:45  pm at the Ketchum location - Nia of Sun Valley studio, 131 W. 4

^th, below Perry's restaurant.  Classes are offered for children 4 years - High School. We also have an adult Ballet on Monday morning and adult Tap on Wednesday evening. 

            Footlight Dance, home of the Footlight Dance Company, has been offering classes under the direction of Hilarie Neely since 1984. Classes offered are: Ballet, Pointe, Creative Movement, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, and Tap dance.  Footlight provides the full array of dance techniques so students have the opportunity to experience all the unique forms of concert dance.  Footlight has convenient studios in Ketchum and Hailey, with the program sponsored by Blaine County Recreation.  Classes run through May with many performance and workshop opportunities, and conclude the school year with an annual performance in May.

            Footlight has an outstanding professional/certified staff of instructors with performing experience from all over the United States. This fall we welcome a wonderful new faculty member, Melodie Mauldin. Melodie graduated with her BFA in Musical Theater/Dance and has been performing and teaching for many years. She brings a wealth of experience and joy to all she does, we are thrilled to have her a part of the Footlight family as she teaches jazz dance.

One of America's hottest contemporary dance companies is right here in Idaho, Boise is their home base. But, August 24-26 they will be in Sun Valley to provide free master classes to the community and perform on the Sun Valley Pavilion Stage.  Just returning from South America earlier this summer and about to perform in Vail, Co. at the International Dance Festival the company is sitting tall with accolades all around. This month they are featured on the front cover of DANCE Magazine.  This is their 3rd visit to the Sun Valley area where their reception has been enthusiastic over Trey McIntyre's dancers and his choreography that emphasizes "focus, flexibility and speed".

Footlight Dance Centre, under the Artistic Direction of Hilarie Neely, presents a premiere dance production of “MARY POPPINS”, Saturday, May 14, 7:00 pm and Sunday, May 15, 2:00 pm to the Community Campus Theater, Hailey. Mary Poppins, danced by Dylan Peterson, Bert, danced by Mariah Davis are both graduating seniors who have been with our program for many years.  Other leads include, senior Tori Poole as Mrs. Banks, Alberta Jefferson as Mr. Banks and introducing 2 young dancers as Jane & Michele Banks, Bryn Downey and Samantha White.  They will be joined by Company dancers, seniors Dakota Barnes and Mia Jefferson, and including Ingrid Peterson, Anne Heiner, Annette Taylor, Courtney Skeahan, and Emmie Altermatt. The story will be told through the forms of ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop and tap dance.  There are 160 talented young dancers who will grace the stage for this production.

            The Wood River Community Orchestra will be providing live music including the Overture, Feed the Birds and Chim Chim Cheree, both favorite tunes.

                        This year the show includes a father-daughter partnering piece to “Stay Awake” during the Lullaby Ballet scene.  Two years ago company dancers started holding a partnering classes with their dads as a way to get them involved with their daughters, to help them interact and appreciate all the work that goes into their love of dance. This year we felt that there was enough confidence to put them on the stage.  The dance is sure to warm your hearts.

            Footlight is sponsored in part by the Blaine County Recreation District and brings programs to children ages’ 4-high school throughout the year at their main studio located in the Community Campus, Hailey with satellite studios at Nia of Sun Valley in Ketchum, and the Grange Hall, Hailey. All tickets are $ 6.00 and available in advance at Inconoclast Bookstore, Ketchum and Yellow Brick Road, Hailey. Pre sold tickets are encouraged. Choreography by instructors Shellrae Garnes, Julie Fox-Jones, Michele Minailo, Hilarie Neely, Kate Weihe, Anne Winton and guest choreographers Dantzel Cherry and Jaime Moore will entertain the audience.  Beautiful, original Victorian costumes for the leads have been created by Michele Minailo.  For more information contact Hilarie Neely, 578-5462.

Students have graduated with dance majors from Cornish School of the Arts, Florida State University and others going on to pursue dance as their professions.  Fall workshops & events  include Choreography, Partnering for Dads and Daughters, carrying signs in the Trailing of the Sheep parade, field trips to see dance outside our community, Holiday Tap/Ballet performance for seniors, and Company members, both Junior and Senior, will work with guest choreographers as they prepare for our annual school educational performance tour Jan. 21-Feb. 6, 2011.
